Frequently asked questions

  • How do I find a lawyer who speaks English?

The self-employed lawyers working together with Deutsche Anwaltshotline only advise in their areas of expertise and in languages they are proficient in. Our strict pre-selection process and constant quality management ensure that you obtain legally secure information by a lawyer who is proficient in English. Simply dial the number listed above and you will be connected with an English-speaking lawyer.

  • What’s the average price for telephone legal advice?

An average telephone consultation takes you and the lawyer about 8 minutes and costs about 16 Euros. We only bill the indicated telephone fee of 1.99 Euro/minute (incl. 19% VAT from the fixed network of the German Telekom, mobile network charges may vary). Also, charges only apply as soon as the lawyer picks up the phone. There are no costs for the automatic announcement. The lawyer's consulting fee is already included in the minute price. You have no further costs!

  • Is there a price cap?

Yes, there is. The price cap is at 50 Euros from a German landline. As soon as your call exceeds a price of 50 Euros, the call is automatically disconnected. This way, we want to prevent our customers from having surprisingly high costs. If you’re in need of further advice, feel free to call back your consulting lawyer’s extension number.

  • Can I call without a 0900-dialling code?

Yes, you can. If you have blocked the 0900 numbers by your provider, you can have the telephone information service 11 8 38 refer you to Deutsche Anwaltshotline. Unfortunately, a call via 11 8 38 usually comes at somewhat higher costs: Via 11 8 38 you will first reach an information service, which – if you request Deutsche Anwaltshotline – will connect you with an authorised cooperation lawyer. During this transfer, the minute charge of the telephone exchange is charged. Afterwards, you will be charged Deutsche Anwaltshotline’s standard rate as outlined above.

  • Is the lawyer's answer legally secure?

Yes. Each of the network’s lawyers is liable for any legal information he or she gives. Deutsche Anwaltshotline only cooperates with experienced and accredited lawyers. A strict pre-selection process and constant quality management ensure that you obtain legally secure information.

  • Will my legal expenses insurance cover the telephone consultation?

Insurance companies handle this very differently. Usually, it depends on your tariff.

We bill the telephone consultation directly via your telephone bill.  For this reason, you must first pay the costs yourself.  Please ask your legal expenses insurance whether you can then submit the telephone bill ("Rechtsberatung" or "Deutsche Anwaltshotline") for reimbursement.

Why don't we offer free legal advice?

In Germany, free initial consultation is generally not provided by lawyers: According to § 34 Rechtsanwaltsvergütungsgesetz (RVG) a fee of up to 190 Euros plus VAT is charged for an initial consultation. The lawyer is responsible for his or her binding and correct legal information, which provides security for the clients. Thus, a lawyer cannot forgo remuneration for the given information and work time. Free initial consultation offers are therefore usually no more than teasers with the goal of selling chargeable service afterwards. This results in customers often paying more when engaging in these offers than when opting for paid initial consultation.
